Hi,
Jazz players (at least all the ones I know) by convention want to “see” the center of the bar, meaning that it is not obscured by being inside a note.
In the attached snip, upper stave, I have simulated this by using a slur. The lower stave shows what Dorico will do if I tie the 2 16ths together.
Is there a way to tell it not to coalesce tied notes? Or any other solution?
The lower notation is technically correct, but I immediately got a response from my players when I handed them a score with that notation. They are used to parsing measures the upper way. (I learned it way back in jazz school in NYC, when we wrote scores by hand)
Thanks!
