How To Stop External Instrument From Locking Up On Playback/Record

I am playing back multiple midi tracks which include Strings and Distortion Guitars using my external instrument.
I am experiencing quite a bit of the instrument locking up and consequently I have to switch it off and back on.
How do I set things up so that I’m not experiencing this locking up as often.
I’m not using a sustain pedal.
Any advice much appreciated.

Could you provide additional information on your setup? Interface, External Instrument, PC specs?

Hi Bob,
I’m using Ketron Sd1 plus keyboard, connected using 5 pin midi din in and out.
Cubase 11 pro, Windows 10, I’m thinking it’s maybe to do with using the Chase functions in Midi.

Terrie,
The Ketron is a fairly old piece. Does it behave well when not connected to the PC?
Also, you have (I’m assuming) MIDI in and out connected. Could there be some MIDI loop occurring? Keyboards usually have settings to take the input to only play sounds and Output to only send MIDI. That way the MIDI data goes through Cubase and back to the keyboard to play the sounds. If the input is going ‘Thru’ the keyboard, it might be looping back to Cubase and back to the keyboard again and again…
Just a thought…

I know that im not using thru, but im going to do what you suggested and have another look at settings in keyboard.
