How to switch instruments?

Hi there,

I am having a clarinet part which is first solo, then switching to tutti. I am using BBCSO Core and I have a solo clarinet and clarinets a3 as VST instruments. How to switch between these two in a proper way?

Best regards,
Martin

Use voices with playback set to IRL and channeled to different sounds.

You could probably approach this a couple ways.

  1. Create 3 clarinet players on 3 staves, and 3 separate instances of the BBCSO VST – each connected to the solo clarinet patch. When playing unison they will have some variation, though you could also slightly adjust the mixer pan to create some subtle spatial separation (faking ‘in situ’)
  2. Create 3 clarinet players on 3 staves but only for score purposes – writing all your music on just 1 staff. Do as Derrek suggested above and switch to say downstem voice 1 for when you wish to play unison a3. In the Play tab enable independent voices and connect solo patch to upstem voice 1, a3 patch downstem voice 1. Finally once finished writing duplicate your unison parts below to the other empty staves, and either mute those channels fully or suppress playback of notes in the bottom pane.

I usually go with something like the first method, even though it’s not an a3 patch, simply making it easier to write counterpoint or double at octaves/3rds/6ths etc.

Or check out NotePerformer and the engine for BBC - will basically do all of this for you automatically
