I can’t help you with your problem but I have similar but more basic problem. First I should state I am a first time user of Dorico on ipad. I want to use a violin fretboard for note selection but when I click on the fretboard option in “write” all I get is a message saying select your ftetted instrument. Where do I find the selection for this option?
You can only use the ‘fretboard’ input option with ‘fretted instruments’ (eg classic guitar). Violin is a string instrument, not a fretted instrument.
If you do want to use this input method, choose Mandolin as the instrument (the tuning is the same). Then when you’ve finished entering notes, change it to Violin.
(Oh, and, welcome to the forum!)
Thanks for the welcome and the advice. Unfortunately that doesn’t solve my problem. I would be happy to select Mandolin but how do I select it? When I click on the fretboard icon all I get is a message “select your fretboard instrument” - there is no list of instruments!
I guess this was meant as a reply in →this thread. I’ll answer there.
(I see Daniel already split the topics.)
To answer your question that erroneously ended up in the other thread: to change the violin to the fretted mandolin, go to Setup Mode, and choose Change Instrument… from the ‘…’ menu behind the instrument under the player’s name in the LH column.
Brilliant - that worked. Thank you.
