Hub very slow to re-appear

After I close a project the Hub does not re-appear for 40-45 seconds (and maybe longer). Worse, I think, since the latest upgrade (6.2.0.6688). Very annoying as I use this a lot as an alternative to two Dorico windows at once since switching between two windows is so slow.

Any way to speed this up?

Are you using massive playback setups that use enormous amounts of memory?

You can work with multiple project windows open and switch between them quickly provided only one of them is activated for playback at any given time.

i don’t know what a massive playback setup is. I have a standard Dorico installation and usually just three-part scores. Is that “massive”? Is there something else about the setup for me to check?

That said, the Activate/Deactivate is probably the problem. All my projects have that activated by default. When I deactivate and then reactivate it takes quite a while to turn blue. Thanks.

It may be a good idea to upload your Diagnostics so someone can see if there is something odd going on.
(“Massive” usually means full orchestra, multi movement works)

How do I “upload diagnostics”?

I have been using Dorico for a couple years and remain mystified by playback. I have minimal playback needs, but spend far to much time trying to get it to work. A common experience is that I open a previous project and find that no sound comes out of one track. I fiddle at random with buttons and menus on the Play module until something works. I suspect that I have loaded “massive” amounts as shown by things like this:

I have no idea how all those got there (I am always using only three or four instruments) or how to select, or change or delete them. VST instruments shows HALion 02 through 09 all with all those duplicated and unnecessary instruments. Am I loading those each time?

Today I decided to start from square one and watch all the the Playback videos to learn how all this works. I found them nearly impenetrable. They all assume far more knowledge and vocabulary than I have or that I can find in or deduce from the documentation. They jump from screen to screen without showing how to get there.

At this point I would like to hire someone to Zoom with and sort this out. Any takers?

Do Help>Create Diagnostic Report
This creates a zip file on your desktop. Upload it by dragging onto your message, or use the upload button…

I get a “file too big” message and cannot upload. The maximum is 4MB and the zipped file is 8.4MB

Email it to Daniel or @Ulf.

Do you have their actual addresses?

You can email me at d dot spreadbury at steinberg dot de.

However, I think you should be able to sort out your playback problems simply by re-applying the default playback template. Choose Play > Playback Template, choose the Auto playback template from the list, and click Apply and Close. This will cause Dorico to clear out all the existing virtual instruments and load only what is necessary to play back the instruments in your project.
