I apologize in advance for not knowing the correct lingo, however I am stuck and hope someone will understand and offer some assistance. I accidentally managed to get string instrument playback but I cannot seem to replicate it on a second variation I am writing. I have copied the screen in the hope to select same from drop downs but the drop down options are not the same, despite picking the same instrument sound. I am selecting strings and the playback is choosing percussion or other such nonsense. Also, I’m new to forums so please be patient; I will do my best to add what I can for clarity. In project 2, I got to choose violin combo but in project one, there is no violin combo option, from the exmap drop down lis; there are only percussion options and default, etc. How can I get realistic string sound ? Sorry, as a new user I can only post one image so figured it’ll be the one that doesn’t work

Welcome to the forum @Sharon_Rask-Huntingt
If you go to menu Play → Playback Template and select any of the stock templates, then Apply & Close. Does that solve the issue?

Allow me to add my own welcome to the forum, Sharon.
I guess the difference between your two projects is, as David suggests, that you have different playback template settings in each one. In general you should find, particularly in your early days using Dorico, that you don’t need to make any adjustments to the choices of sounds in Play mode: you can rely on Dorico to make appropriate choices for you.
The key to this is choosing the right playback template. As David suggests, go to Play > Playback Template and try applying one of the factory playback templates. This will reset any changes you’ve made in Play mode, and should ensure you get the sounds you’re looking for.
