I can't make empty measure rests re-appear

I am working on a file that I imported from Finale. About half of the staves came in with most of their whole measure rests invisible. In the Finale file, I had combined many staves (Flute 1-2 share a staff, for instance). So, I used Layers in Finale to keep the stems pointing the right way.

I tried Layout Options > Players > Bar Rests and Multi-bar Rests> Show bar rests in empty bars? solution. The box is checked in all staves, but it still fails to appear in this one. So that wasn’t it.

Next I tried toggling “Starts voice” or “Ends voice” in Properties > Notes and Rests. This works, but since the staves were combined in Finale, I would need to manually toggle the starts/ends voice setting over a huge score. Is there some global reset to this that will save me hours and hours?

Select All. Filter (select) notes and rests, then Filter (deselect) any tuplets and/or grace notes. You should then be able to reset the starts/end voice toggles for the whole score.

That should do it! Thanks. If I do as you suggest, which I think would amount to turning off all Starts Voice and Ends Voice selections, will I lose any notes? The parts switch back and forth between two scenarios (all notes in the same layer looking like chords, and notes in two separate layers when the parts are rhythmically different).

No. You will not lose any notes. However, if you have removed some rests on purpose, they will reappear!
