I was trying for the past couple of days to convince someone that was searching for a new DAW to use Cubase. And while we were talking about it I realised that a lot of the things I was saying made no sense. The workarounds, the decades long bugs, the things that just don’t work and we’re just used to it… Steinberg needs to do something. I saw this software from the eyes of a new comer today, and I don’t know how to defend it anymore.
I don’t understand the point of your post. If you don’t like it, don’t use it. Go to where the grass is greener. You have choices. Choose what is best for you.
I believe Steinberg is doing something. They are trying to please many people who have many different requirements and expectations using a limited amount of resources.
I think Cubase is a stunning piece of software.

Tell us which DAW you had in mind that’s better in this regard?
Cool story bro!
It’s about accountability. We pay for this software, correct ? I pay for it because it has functions that I need and use. When a lot of these functions are broken, it is false advertising to me. I don’t need Cubase to do more than it already does. I just need it to do it correctly. There are many examples where they have jumped the gun on new features while forgetting the underlying tool for that feature is broken. Example : hot swap of samples in the Sampler. Fantastic, it works amazing. But the sampler still reverts to previous samples randomly when deleting or duplicating a Sampler track. This is what is bothering me. It’s great to have new functions that Dom Sigalas can make videos about so they can move software, but how about you fix the Sampler first and then give us Hot Swap ?
I think so to. If and when it works.
None.
Thanks man. Follow for part 2.
What does this have to do with your friend’s daw needs?
You two guys operate with the exact same kinds of projects, workflow desires, same computer?
I have no bugs, issues, difficulties with my Cubendos on win11 machines. As is the case with thousands of others who do/don’t post on forums.
I’m thinking your friend was talkin’ to the wrong guy for opinions ![]()
Oh yeah ? Try to explain to someone why you need to activate Global Automatin Write in order for your hardware inputs to show up in the session window. Or that you can re-order those inputs and outputs in that same session window but that the mix console won’t follow that order because it only follows the order set up in the Audio Connections panel, and if you have 48 hardware inputs but want to add something at input 8, you need to delete all the inputs that came after and set them all back up manually…
Forget about Dom Sigalas, that guy is just an influencer, you need to speak with Greg Ondo, he will guide you. ![]()

Cubase newbie here. The learning curve is steep, even though I am coming from another DAW. However, my productions just started to come to life. I am getting some magic, that I haven’t experienced before. Cubase seems to work great with reggae genre.
Thanks Steinberg.
I’ve been using Cubase for over 25 years. Before Cubase I used Sonar. Cubase has everything I need, and yes, it’s deep and does more things than I can remember. But, when I need to accomplish a complicated task, it gets me there. Thank you Steinberg.
I’ve heavily used a handful of the major DAWs on the market: Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton. I’ve dabbled with demos of Studio One, Reaper, and Bitwig.
My experience is that your original post could literally fill in the blank for any of those companies. I don’t think Steinberg is perfect but I feel like they listen to users and improve their software wayyy more than Avid and Apple. If you go on the PT or Logic forums you’ll literally see the same posts, people complaining about stuff broken for decades and hopeless that x company will do anything about it.
I’ve found I’m happier when I focus on what I can do with any software, IMHO.
I don’t really care that other software don’t work properly. I care that the one I paid for and invested a lot of money and time over the past 30 years doesn’t work
Guide me towards what ?
None of people on Cubases artist roster seem to be having a problem that is preventing them from making music and money. Some of the biggest hits in the past decade were made in Cubase.
What’s your point here really ? Because some people (who work mostly in the box like Cirkut, Ian Kirkpatrick, etc…) have been successful using the things in Cubase that work, I shouldn’t be complaining about the things that don’t ? Also if you’re trying to make the point that I’m the issue not the software, I’ll just let you know that I’m very happy with my career and the money it’s generating. I can still rightfully complain about what doesn’t work correctly.
Dom is a brilliant musician and programmer. I can’t say enough good things about him. Only bad thing I can say is that he’s one of the few people who won’t write me back. But nobody’s perfect. Ha
