I can't really defend this anymore

Thats why Im whining about missing stuff atm…

Will finish the migration file for stream deck/cubase plugin once I get my head around the file format…I generally use 4 gestures but it only has 3 so a bit of mapping to do…but I use a combo of
Modes
1st tier tools on razer tartarus
Support tools on Avid control softkey also generated from the same format spreadsheet (although not finished yet) so you get a connected hierarchical workflow = fun because fatigue is min and speed is maxed

Its important to be able to have zoom levels for system overview and tight control focus etc

I have to wonder why, after some 30 years, you haven’t changed DAWs? And oddly, considering the very things your friend wants a DAW to do, you feel Cubase isn’t right for him (or you?). It’s like, he asked what brand of car you’ve been driving for 30 years and you can’t tell him why. There must be some things about Cubase that are worthy of praise. But apparently the things you don’t like are the same things he needs. (?)

You don’t need to defend Cubase. It meets the needs of many. for the many things needed. It apparently has met most of your needs for years, yet its flaws are what bother you. There’s a reason or reasons you’ve stayed with Cubase; focus on those and maybe your friend will find that - flaws or not - it’s a pretty amazing product and you’re not a bad salesman.

“Focus on what works” is not always an option as I HAVE to get through the things that don’t to complete the whole of my job. It’s just such a hippie thing to say to “look at the bright side”. This is capitalism. They want my money, and in return I’m going to demand for the software I paid for to work. So please…

@rashford6489 This has been my frustration at the core…more bugs for more money lol
I agree with @AeroV on many levels…but I have done plenty of window shopping and as per other posts…there is no perfect solution so much of what you are saying is valid

Its the nature of this business
Cubase = quite fixed structures but they are (reasonably) stable so once you have mastered them, they are tools in the toolbox

Repaer = Super flexible but there is a lot of hacking and more importantly TIME. You are always have to use someones hack of a feature and get use to many diff tools. Reaper is functionally and stability the best daw of all by far. I dont have the time to dose into it and some aspects I have asked for at the forum got very few if any repsonses. Some really helpful peeps there though

Live = very hacky and limited to stereo tracking (although there is max its kludgy) altnough great for jamming etc
etc etc

So yeah…even though new stuff comes along…nothing has the real edge for everything.
I would pay for an upgrade…NO NEW FEATURE…just bug fixes, speed and stability ie like giving Steiny a foot up to remove all the siltation

For suggesting DAWs to my clients Ive written a list of how I do it.
Most bedroom producers and better off with making their own choices so I dont get the blame but my first suggestion is always Luna free. Does the job for them…unless its midi centric then I suggest Live lite til they get a handle on it.
Peace

The WORST thing about Cubase on a Mac is the scrolling issues. in some windows scrolling ok, in others it’s accelerated by like 10x.

It works ok with Apple’s magic mouse and trackpad, but with “normal” mouse it’s a disaster.

Agreed. I was using an Apple trackpad and a Kensington (with the big red ball). With each one being great for some tasks and crap for others. I recently purchased a Stream Deck + XL and I can use a knob for zooming the timeline now. That alone was worth the cost. It saved me so much time during a tracking and arrangement session this past weekend. Finally… it was easy to get granular on audio and MIDI parts. I cannot express what a relief it was/is

I’m thinking to get the stream deck for that exact reason. Can’t believe we have to buy additional hardware for workaround around the bugs that Steinberg doesn’t fix for years. The thing is I work at two locations so I will have to get 2 stream decks. Can you share how you set up yours?

Check out this thread. A couple of us talk about it in detail here:
