I don't want duplicate chord names

I didn’t add any for the bass guitar. They appeared automatically.

  1. Chord symbols are system objects, which means they don’t belong to one staff. Wherever they appear, it’s because the instrument is set to show them.
  2. If they all suddenly appeared on the Bass Guitar, probably what happened is you had something in the Bass Guitar selected when you added one. To stop them showing there, see Hiding/Showing chord symbols in the User Guide.

By default, chords show on “rhythm” instruments unless turned off in Setup mode. Bass guitar is a rhythm instrument.

There’s also an option to show chord symbols only at the top of the system:

I ran into a similar problem with chord symbols yesterday, because I misunderstood the documentation.

  1. In Setup mode, select a player in the Players panel for whom you want to hide/show chord symbols.
  2. In the action bar, click Player Settings and choose one of the following options:
  • To show chord symbols above all instrument staves held by the player, choose Chord Symbols > Show for All Instruments.

The speed bump for me was “Chord Symbols > Show for All Instruments”. I thought that meant “show for all instruments in the score”, not “show all instruments held by this player”. The documentation says it, but I just read right past it!

So I would like to suggest, if there is room in that contextual menu, that the app says “Show for All Instruments Held by This Player”. That would have saved me some confusion and an extra trip to the documentation.

That’s something that trips everybody. It’s nice that it has been added in the manual, because for years, you had to read it here in the forum!
