I have a few questions

  1. Can I use it on two computers at the same time with one license?

  2. I installed the program on a second computer, how do I activate or deactivate it?

  3. I want to change the ’ in isn’t’ to a different shape.
    " ’ "How do I input it?

  4. How do I input when a hyphen (-) does not work?

Hello! To answer your first question, up to three computers can be activated with the same license. In order to do that go to the app called “Steinberg Activation Manager” which should have install onto your computer when you downloaded Dorico. If not, you can simply copy and paste the following link into any browser and download it there

As for your third question, I’m a bit confused by what you mean by “in isn’t” and its shape. Do you mean that you added text and want to change it’s font? If so, you can go into the Preferences menu by clicking Edit > Preferences or ctrl / cmd + , in order to change the default font. Or if you just want to change the font of one text, you can simply double click it and it’ll let you edit it.

I am also confused on your fourth question by what you mean by “input.” If you mean to input a note, you can double click the staff wherever you want to input a note, or you can click the add note symbol (it looks likes a note with a plus sign right next to it) on the “Write” tab. You can also type shift + n.

Hope this helps!!

Hello k.k and welcome to the forum.
First of all, your apostrophe ’ in isn’t looks fine to my eyes. A lot of people incorrectly use a minute/inch “'” instead (this is an old habit from the typewriter times, when these machines didn’t have an apostrophe …).
How to input these typographical signs depend on a few things like the language and type of your operating system, the keyboard type, the language you have assigned to your keyboard and also the software you use of course. Modern software does often autocorrect these kind of “spelling” errors,
Can you give us some information what you are. using?

[edit] I just noticed, that even the forum software corrects the inch sign to an apostrophe automatically. I had to put the inch sign into quotes to show it. This means @k.k has possibly written something different from what the forum displays.

Thanks.

  1. Can three computers work simultaneously?

  2. Hyphens in lyrics do not work.
Even if you click the space bar after inserting a hyphen in lyrics, it does not appear.

As for the apostrophe, it has been resolved.

Hello k.k,
if you are talking about inputting lyrics in Dorico, the hyphen key is, to auto forward to the next note and the next syllable of a word. You type the hyphen key once or more, until you reach the next note with a syllable. Hyphens get created automatically if that space is a bit wider. If you have finished a word you advance with the Space bar. You can hit the Space bar more than once, if the last syllable of a word extends more than a note. An extension line is created automatically.

I don’t think you can work on multiple computers simultaneously because Dorico does not have any cloud save functionality. What I usually do to simplify the process of switching computers is save all of my projects on Dropbox so all of my computers contain the same file.

Do I need to check Activate/Deactivate each time I use each of the three computers?

Joshua, I think there might be a misunderstanding. You are probably thinking, if two computers can work on the same file/project simultaneously.
Our thread starter k.k was probably just thinking of the amounts of computers you could have one Dorico license registered.

Yes, That’s what I was thinking was if two computers can work on the same file/project simultaneously.
Is it possible?

I am just a user; yes one can work on the same project from different computers, but not at the same time. Make sure the project is saved before switching to the other computer. If the project is stored on a cloud service there might be delays until changes have been synchronised.
Additionally I am interested in your scenario k.k, how would you be able to work on two computers at the same time, and what would be the advantages?

I installed the program on the second computer, but how do I register the computer in the Activation Manager? The Activation Manager screen only shows “Dorico 5 activated” and “deactivated.”

I think you have to go onto the web and log into your MySteinberg account.
The address might be something like:
https://account.steinberg.net/products

If the Activation Manager Shows “Activated” it means the license is active on the Computer and you can start Dorico. There is nothing more to register.

No, that is not possible. You can not open one single Dorico project on two machines at the same time. You need to save and close the project on one Computer before you can open it on the other computer.

I hope not to add more confusion… You can activate (i.e. register officially) the Dorico software on up to 3 different computers existing next to each other, e.g. once on the main desktop in your home office, once on your on-the-road laptop, and one more for good measure. It may be technically possible to run Dorico concurrently on more than one of those systems (I’ve no idea), but the licence doesn’t allow it. In principle, it’s meant to be single-user, but in different circumstances. If two people will work in this instalment of Dorico at the same time, you should have two licences.

Nope! Once they’re activated you don’t need to do any fiddling with them!
