I have a question about how to play repeatedly

Hello. I am using Dorico Pro 6. I understand that in classical scores, the music does not repeat after transitioning from D.S. al Coda to Segno. Is it possible to apply repeat playback even after Dal Segno? Thank you.

Playback options>Repeats…

I checked the part you mentioned. However, it doesn’t work.

While it’s standard practice to skip repeats after a D.S., I would like the repeats to be played even after returning to the Segno in this piece.

Hi, I would like to set up a specific repeat structure in Dorico.

Usually, the playback sequence goes like this (skipping repeats after D.S.):

1-2-3-4-5|2-3-4-6-7-8 2-3-9-10

However, I want the playback to include the repeats even after the D.S. jump: 1-2-3-4-5|2-3-4-6-7-8|2-3-4-5 2-3-9-10

In other words, I want the performers (and the playback engine) to observe the repeats again during the D.S. pass. Could you please let me know how to achieve this correctly in Dorico Pro 6?

Thank you!

Here is a way to get the desired playback sequence:

The D.S. al Coda at the end of bar 8 was replaced by a D.S. with its Custom text property set to D.S. al Coda and with Replay repeats enabled. A D.S. and a Segno were added to the middle of bar 5. Then a D.S. al Coda was added at a different rhythmic position and moved to the middle of bar 5. Finally, all three repeat markers in bar 5 were selected, their Hide property was enabled and their Marker index was set to 2.

Here is the revised Dorico project:

Thanks to your help, the issue is now perfectly resolved. I never would have thought to solve it this way. Thank you so much

Hi

Thanks for your previous explanation. I’ve been trying to follow your method, but I’m still struggling with D.S.S. al Coda and D.S.S. merging into one another.

If you don’t mind, could you please share a short screen recording of how you input and align those markers? It would be a huge help for me to see the actual process.

Thanks again!

Sorry, I don’t have time to make a screen recording, so follow these steps:

  1. Add a D.S. and a Segno on beat 3 of bar 5. Then select both markers, enable their Hide property and set their Marker index to 2.

  2. Add a D.S. al Coda on beat 2 of bar 5, enable its Hide property and set its Marker index to 2.

  3. With the rhythmic grid resolution set to an eighth note, press Alt/Opt-Right Arrow 2 times to move the D.S.S. al Coda to beat 3 of bar 5.

Hi

I finally got it working!

Thank you for the “Alt + Arrow” tip for alignment. I also found the clever trick in Bar 8-using a plain D.S. with Custom Text was the key to making the playback work perfectly.

I really appreciate your help!
