I heard you can buy Dorico 5 Pro for $150 if you are a Finale user. How do I do that?

Title says it all. How do I buy Dorico Pro 5 for $150? I have used Finale for years. Do I need to demonstrate somehow that I’ve been using Finale so long?
I’ve downloaded and tried Dorico 5 in its trial version, I understand that’s the same as the full-time Dorico Pro 5? Except that it won’t drop dead on me after 60 days?

In Australia, you can upgrade from an earlier version for $154. The crossgrade price is $460.

*This is on the Steinberg website

at the bottom, “log into your MakeMusic account”…
Presumably the offer is still there. Tech support at MakeMusic is available, they can help otherwise.

Edit: I have just logged in to my MM account and could not see anything. If you cannot either, then there are a few “Contact us” and similar Tech support options on the MM website, including inside your account area; they can then see your Finale purchase and advise.
Otherwise if things have changed, perhaps with Steinberg continuing the offer somehow, I would think one of the team would answer this thread for you with details, but the offer was offered by MM themselves, not Steinberg.

This link should take you to MakeMusic’s store, where you can buy the crossgrade.

Yes: it’s the same program. When you buy it, you won’t need to reinstall, just sort out the licensing.

A much better answer than I gave, thanks Ben

Bingo. Just went there (your link to the MakeMusic site) and purchased the full version for $149.

“Houston, the Eagle has landed.”

Thanks everybody!

Glad you have it purchased
I checked the link at the bottom of the MM page I referenced, and it goes to the Buy now page as Ben indicated, so it is good their page is still current. (Mentioning this for anyone else coming upon this page).
Thank you for updating us @little-acorn
Glad Dorico is functioning well enough for your purposes to purchase, we are all hoping for exciting new features in v6 (and 7 … 8 )

I’ve heard that Dorico Ver. 6 is now available. I just purchased Ver. 5 (on March 22), haven’t had much time to work with it. How do I upgrade to ver. 6?

I’m still seeing a few notes that my Ver. 5 is a trial version (and it’s expired)…but I purchased it 2 months ago! Now I’m having problems getting to the main Dorico forum. I’m still a beginner… am I doing something wrong?

Did you register your Download Access Code (DAC) that MakeMusic gave you into the Steinberg Download Assistant? If not and you just installed Dorico, it might have put you on a trial license. Go into the Steinberg Download Assistant and enter the personal Download Access Code that MakeMusic gave you and that should take care of it.

The free grace period update for Dorico 6 began March 27, so you purchased 5 days too early to qualify, I’m afraid. You would have to buy an upgrade from Dorico 5 to Dorico 6 from Steinberg - unless you did not register your DAC right away and then the situation might be different. They count the date when you enter the DAC into the Steinberg Download Assistant or the My Steinberg web portal rather than the purchase date to determine the grace period.

Thank you mducharme! I went back to the email Makemusic had sent me, got the code, and started the Download Assistant. It asked for the code, I pasted it in, and it started to set up Version 6!! Terrific!

I got it going on the first two section to download and start up, but then it somehow stopped and I couldn’t get it going again. Now it seems to be hung up in someway. Is there any way I can restart from the beginning, and load all of Ver. 6?

There’s a drop-down to delete the downloaded files in SDA:

Went to the folders where the files for Dorico v.6 were, deleted them manually, then went to c:/users/MyName/downloads and clicked on the line for Steinberg Download Assistant and deleted that, the re-downloaded Steinberg Download Assistant, started it, downloaded (again) each section. Then found where to put in my code, put it in. Then found an icon on my desktop for Dorico 6 (but not Dorico 6 Pro), clicked on it, and I was up and running Dorico 6! Even learned how to export .mxl files that I had previously exported from my old Finale 26, the score appeared. Clicked the Spacebar, and it played! Two of the lines overlapped slightly, and it played a little too fast (but not bad), and I was up and playing them! Playing was perfect except for the slightly higher tempo. HUGE steps forward! Thank you all! Onward and upward.

The icon doesn’t say Pro, but the splash screen does.

It doesn’t say Pro, because you can launch it as Pro, Elements or SE if you want to (they are the same app). By default it will launch as Pro.

it played a little too fast (but not bad), and I was up and playing them! Playing was perfect except for the slightly higher tempo.

Where can I find the slider (or other tool) to change the tempo this project plays at? I’d like to slow it down a little, to maybe (half note = 65) and then keep it at that tempo for the entire project except for the ritard at the end.

And… the entire project plays very quietly. The parts marked forte are audible, but not loud enough. In some questions from 2022, I saw where someone showed a picture of a slider where the user can increase the volume of the entire project, where parts marked pp (pianissimo) will now ply medium-softly, and parts marked f (forte) will now play nice and loud, etc.

But… where do I find that slider to change volume of the entire project?

Thanks all!

You need to set a tempo in the score. Select something at the start, then press Shift T for the Tempo popover, then type h=65 and press Enter. Or type (h=65) if you don’t want it to print.

In the Mixer, the rightmost slider.

No: you can’t set the tempo in the Mixer. You can set a Fixed Tempo in the playback controls, but it’s a temporary state. The way to set a tempo for a document is to add a tempo to the score.

Obviously not, Ben. If you reread my post you will see that my answer was about volume. Time for a cup of coffee?

Ah, yes: sorry. “Ignore this!”.
