I need help with audio output for Dorico 5

I am new to Dorico 5 and still learning. With other programs I am able to redirect sound on my Windows 11 computer directly to my hearing aids by using a Bluetooth device that plugs into my computer audio jack. When I do that in other programs (eg Zoom) , the audio automatically shifts to the hearing aids. When I tried to do that in Dorico, sound still came from the computer speakers. I went to Preferences > Play and manually checked the headphones option, but still got sound through the computer. I tried resetting the sound engine to the Realtek option but that shut down Dorico and now I cannot open it. I found a suggestion to rename the VST2, VST3, and Steinberg folders in Common Files, but that did not solve it. And now, I am also unable to open the Steinberg Activation app to reset Dorico. How should I proceed to reset the Dorico system? Thanks for any help you can offer!

Ron

Hi Ron,

In a File Explorer window type into the address bar
%appdata%\Steinberg
and hit the return/enter key. In that folder is a subfolder named ‘Dorico 5 AudioEngine’. Delete that folder and try again to start Dorico, does it then launch again?

That did it! Thanks so much, Ulf. And now I’m getting the sound coming to my hearing aids if I click the headset checkbox. One more question: Is there a way to boost output volume from Dorico? With my hearing loss some extra volume would help. Thank you for your quick response. Now you’ve saved me twice! (You also helped me last weekend.) All the best.

Ron

You are more than welcome.

Regarding the sound level, have a look at the Mixer window, you can pull up the channel faders as well as that of the (red) master channel.

The default fader levels you can adjust in the Dorico Preferences dialog, somewhere on the Play tab.

Is this information good enough?
