I NEED HELP

I have just laoded cubase artist 6 onto my pc, win 7 @ 64bit. All was fine until I pluged in a usb powered controller Alesis QX49. This appeared to be working fine but then went a bit pear shaped and certainly wasn’t working in the way I expected. Then to make matters far worse I have been experiancing at least .5 sec of latency when I have then used amp rig as a vst effect insert. Not sure if the two are connected but it wasn’t doing this until I had pluged the alesis in?? Can anybosy give a novoce a bit od advice here because this is relally bugging me!?

I have tried all sorrts up to and including completely re-installing the system but to no effect. Can somebody offer some help or advice please?

thanks

Martin

Is the correct ASIO driver selected? There’s a Constrain Delay Compensation feature, the manual will shed more light on it.

Furthermore, if the proper ASIO drivers ARE selected, is the ASIO’s latency set up correctly if it has applicable settings in regard this? My sound card’s ASIO for example has a latency setting where I can adjust how much latency it experiences to reduce stuttering, pops and clicks at the cost of reduced sensitivity to rapid MIDI controller key presses and after I get into the 150+ms range then I start finally getting noticeable lag but 10ms is a good setting for me.

My friend who does audio production on a borderline professional basis stated that a setting of 10ms of latency or lower (which is unnoticeable delay to a lot of people) means your computer is good but you need a hulking monster of a computer to be able to successfully reach the 1ms mark without any errors at all.

Also, before anyone jumps on my post saying something to the effect of “OMG ITS YUR CREATIVE CARD’S FAULT!!” my friend I mentioned has an M-Audio card (which yes I know, I should get one ASAP and I will in the future) and he experiences the same problem where going below 10ms causes stuttering, popping and clicking.

Thanks

The problem gets worse. I now have NO imput sound whatsoever, despite the device manager showing 2 mono imputs and 1 stereo output. Latency is showing something like 21.something miliseconds! Bare in mind that when I initially laoded it all was well. I have noticed that when I go onto VST connections the output are now showing - I’m sure it wasn’t originally showing this on oine side - stereo out vsl out?? is this right and how do I change it??

I really am stuck here, as I say I’m getting no audio output from my C12+ which was working fine yesterday!! If I load a file, its playing that no problem and with no apparent latency issue.

When all else fails - and sooner if I remember - I check that the audio card hasn’t been lost in VST Connections (F4). It happens sometimes, especially when you’ve been fiddling about.
