Force Duration is your friend. I donât think there is a global setting to avoid this local override function in this case, but others may know more.
It doesnât work. I tried it. I canât get it to work no matter what.
Force Duration only works if the notes are input anew, unfortunately there currently is no way to edit their rhythmic arrangement afterwards. Dorico treats tied notes as a single note, which is why their components canât be selected separately in Write mode. While I donât want the latter to be changed, I would very much welcome an option to adjust the rhythmical representation of a note afterwards without entering the whole note anew.
Ah, thank you for explaining. It makes sense. I hope they introduce that feature soon.
One method I use to edit the written value is to select the note, turn on Force Duration, press the key for a value shorter than the note then press the desired value.
In the example above:
select the tied notes, press O, then press 5 twice quickly.
After re-reading the original post, I noticed that @Abhishek_Timbadia is using Dorico 3.5. In case the double-tap to achieve a dotted note had not been introduced by that version, instead of pressing 5 twice quickly, press 5 once followed by the period key " . " .
If you only need this at this one point in the first bar after the time signature, everything has already been said about âforce durationâ.
If you need this more often later on, you can also enter â6/16â as the time signature (in the next bar) â the â(x, 3+3)â will appear automatically â and set âhide time signatureâ in the properties for this time signature. It then looks like this on my screen:
