i5 6600k vs i7 6700k?

Hi,

I have a question concerning two models of cpus. Do you have any experience with i5 6600k and i7 6700k?
What about cpus performances in relation to Cubase?
Exemplary assumptions:
60-80 vst tracks (samples libraries) + effects, fx (reverbs, delays, etc.).

Do you think both cpus will manage those kinds of projects with such amount of tracks and additional effects?

I am at the stage of buying new pc, and I have dilemma, which one would be maybe not better (because i think it is obvious), but rather if i5 will be good enough for those kinds of projects.

Of course budget is limited

Nobody will be able to give you guarantees on numbers of tracks as there are simply too many variables there. I have an i5-6600 (no “K”, I’m not a fan of overclocking DAWs) in a Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3P and I’m very happy with it.

There’s now an i5-7600K (Kaby Lake) which seems to be even better value especially if you’re intending to overclock, it’s an 1151 socket and will work in a Z170 mainboard if you can’t afford the Z270. You would still have an upgrade path then to an i7-7700K if you really needed it.
