Icon P1-M script change

I just purchased the P1-M controller, (ditching my X-Touch). I have read about the midi script that’s available and sounds like it’s a great way to go.

HOWEVER, this is new territory for me. Can someone point me to a source on how exactly to change the script and how it affects set up?
The questions I have are:
Is this script used as a replacement for the stock Mackie, or is this work in conjunction with that? In other words, does working with Midi script mean I set up the controller as midi rather than Mackie?
Does this script mean the V1-M software is not needed and you map keys through cubase midi control mapping?

I need to start from the beginning and I don’t want to ask you guys to walk me through it, but I’m sure there is a source already out there that can teach me(?) Or is my level of knowledge on the subject mean i should stick with the standard Icon set up and not mess with the script change?

I used my X-touch as it came out of the box, but I used midi control mapping to change functions to several buttons. So I’m confused how my X-Touch sliders and controls worked without my doing anything, but i used midi to remap other buttons that weren’t working.

I hope I made some sense here, I realize this will create lots of eye rolls

Quick answer - it adds some features that Mackie doesn’t have, and lacks some that Mackie does have. For me the midi remote script still has too many downsides (multi-touch support conflicts with track selection, visbility configs don’t update properly) so I stick with Mackie.

You still need the IMAP software to configure the touch screen (mostly to add the labels I think). See the help section in the github script page for details on that.

I appreciate the reply. I think I’ll use it “stock” for a while and see if it meets my needs. Maybe no need to tune up a new car.
