[Apologies if this is too basic - I saw posts in a similar direction, but not exactly the same topic. Also no luck reading operation manuals.]
Using latest Dorico 5 Elements, HALion Sonic 7. I create a Clarinet Bb player, which in HALion correctly chooses Iconica Sketch Clarinet 1. Expression map in Dorico is “Iconica Sketch Picc, Fl, Ob, Cor, Cl, …” which seems correct.
If I enter some score notes and set Dorico dynamics to Forte, playback is at a very low level. Dorico shows playback technique Natural, which in expression map has Volume dynamics: Note velocity (only). The HALion GUI expression (2nd) wheel is at zero. Pulling up the wheel makes volume increase, but returns to zero on playback.
Playback technique Marcato includes Secondary dynamic CC1, and playback volume is as I expect.
Playback technique Non-Vibrato has primary dynamic CC1, which I expect might work, but I’m not sure in the Dorico score how to get there from Natural.
Would it be normal to just add Secondary CC1 to Natural in the expression map, or switch technique by something in the score?
I have no physical expression device (pedal, keyboard wheel) in the setup, which might be relevant?
Thanks.
