Ideal gaps and Playing Techniques

Hello,

I would like to ask you a question regarding Ideal gaps (Vertical spacing) and Playing Techniques. I am currently copying a piece which has several Playing Techniques (as well as Staff Texts etc.) and when I input everything I have a result like this:

As you can see, the Playing Techniques of a staff appear in almost the same “row” as the Dynamics of the staff above. I would like Ideal Gaps (or other Spacing options?) to consider everything in the staff to calculate Ideal Gaps, in order to have a cleaner score.

Am I missing something? Should I make any other adjustments? It can be very tedious to adjust manually bar per bar…

Thank you very much!

The Ideal gaps (now called “Minimum” Gaps) in Layout Options are the value used before any adjustment for Collision Avoidance and Vertical Justification.

There are settings for the distance between low objects on one staff and high objects on another staff, under Layout Options > Vertical Spacing > Collision Avoidance.

The problem here is that the objects aren’t overlapping: the high Playing Techniques are earlier in the bar than the low-hanging dynamics.

You may be able to increase the Collision Avoidance values for items within the system: this would give you extra space between the dynamics and the ST below.

Increasing the gap between staves might work, but it would affect every staff, which may not be desirable.
