Is there any way to easily compare the options/settings for 2 different layouts, and highlight any specific differences?
My practical situation is this: I’ve got a solo piano piece where the pagination for the full score is different from the auto-generated piano part. I suspect that this may be because at some point I tweaked the minimal inter-system vertical space for the full score. I later returned it to the default 10-space value, but the “full score” and “piano part” layouts still have page breaks in different places.
None of this is a big deal for this specific piece (I was never going to use the “piano part” layout for anything), but it does raise 2 questions for me:
do I infer right that two layouts with identical content and settings might still display/paginate the music differently if at some point in the past layout settings for one were changed and then changed back? (i.e. there’s some history dependence in how a given layout looks)
is there any easy way to compare the options/settings for 2 different layouts, just to check for any unintended differences?
(I know I can hit “reset to default” in Layout Options, and that might undo some unintended differences, but it doesn’t tell me what changed or why.)
The library manager doesn’t allow to compare the project with itself (to see all differences between one layout and another inside the same project). But it is easy enough to duplicate the project in the OS and then use the copy to compare the layout options of specific layouts of each project (original and duplicate):
Either way, thanks for the help, it’s allowed me to find out the key things I was interested in. It looks like in this case there are no obvious differences as to why the full score should paginate differently from the part. But I can at least see how to compare a whole load of settings (and differences) that will prove useful for future project management.
By default the first page of the score will use the First Page Template from the default Full score set. The first page of the part uses the first page template from the default Part set.
The margins of the musical frames differ, so it’s expected pagebreaks at the first page can differ if all other settings are the same.
