Dorico 5.latest, Windows11, NP for playback
I wanted to reset the quantization level for entering music. I forgot where that setting is. I hit j to open the jump bar. I type “quantization” (without the quotes) and the only thing which shows up is “requantize.” I try that, set it as I want, and go to record music into notation and nothing’s changed. So obviously I changed the wrong setting. I open the jump bar again and enter “reset quantization” and get no results. I enter “adjust quantization” and get no results. I finally resort to the online manual, where I enter “quantization” and immediately learn that to set that I have to go to Edit/Preferences/Play and then I can set the quantization level as I wish and then I can record the music.
Why didn’t the jump bar take me to that setting or at least show that in a list of possibilities when I entered “quantization?”
Am I the only one who doesn’t get successful results?
I don’t think the jump bar knows about things in the Preferences dialog, which are system preferences. I think it only knows about items and preferences within a project.
I thought it was to “jump” to anything in the program that one is asking about. If you’re right then I see limited usefulness for the jump bar and that would explain why I can’t get any usable results. I know what’s going on in my projects – it’s the global things I forget about if I don’t change them often and that’s what I would love the jump bar to help me with. Oh well.
For more information see here:
And the Manual:
and especially this note (excerpt from manual):
Generally you can use the Jumpbar, among other like the commands that you find in menus etc…, to recall Options (Engraving O., Layout O. etc…), but not for Preferences.
The global Preferences dialog is fairly small, and it’s got its own search box when you open it up. For most other things (“Is that option in Engraving Options, or Notation Options?”), you can use the jump bar.
A nice functionality in all Dialogue windows of Preferences and Options is that, beyond the search field on the upper left, once you choose one category from the left panel, you can search inside that category with Command(Control)+F: a secondary “local” search box will appear on the upper middle part of the window, where you can search for items, and it will also display the number of items found, and they will be highlighted yellow :
Alright, I totally misunderstood the concept of the jump bar.
Oh well, that’s what this forum is for, to learn.
Thanks for the help!
