What is your Dynamic Curve set to?
Library > Playback Options > Dynamics > Dynamic curve power
If you can upload a few bars of this project we can test it out on our end.

Is this by chance an XML import? I often find Dorico ignores dynamics with some imported files, and I’m not sure why.

Perhaps it has not recognised them as dynamics, rather simple text? (select one and check the status bar)

Actually, that does not seem to be the issue. In fact, with those projects, if I add new dynamics within Dorico, it won’t play those either. It’s not a huge issue for me, but it does occur often. I haven’t considered whether it occurs with projects created in specific apps (MuseScore vs. Finale, for example). Almost all of my students use MuseScore and their projects often fail to play dynamics when I import them.
