I am moving a sung through musical from Finale to Dorico and have just come across a case where Dorico did not pick up tuplets on a vocal staff. Oddly enough tuplets on an acoustic guitar at the same spot in the music were imported correctly. The only differences I can see is that the notes in the vocal tuplet were all at the same pitch and also had lyrics, whereas the notes in the guitar tuplets were at different pitches (and no lyrics of course).–When I change the three notes in the vocal part to a tuplet (3 quarter notes in the space of 2) I get a quarter rest after the tuplet and then have to select the music to the end of the staff and shift it over. Since there were only two tuplets on the vocal staff this is not too onerous, but it did change some dotted quarters later in the part to eighths tied to quarters, which is actually correct rhythmically.—What I worry about are songs that have a lot of tuplets. If tuplets aren’t imported correctly in those it could result in a lot of work.–Is there any way to change a group of notes to a tuplet while moving the notes to the right of the tuplet to where they should be at the same time?
If tuplets aren’t imported correctly from xml it almost always points to an error in the xml file.
There are threads on how best to prepare Finale files for export so as to minimise this.
