This one (in general) has been a big fetaure request for some time (apparently Nuendo has support in the application).
For importing .wav files, there is the option to split Stereo to Mono but no option to combine Mono to Stereo tracks.
this would be a big help in many cases, as well, if the option was available as a process command as well.
