Import PDF

What is the best program for importing big PDF scores into Dorico? Have tried SmartScore 64 pro, but it doesn´t work! Even a Sibelius pdfscore looks like poughkeepsie

Greetings Roland

There is no software that can convert a graphical image of music into music without needing some correction – and exactly how much correction will depend on all kinds of factors.

Myriad’s PDF to Music Pro.app specialises in analysing PDFs created by notation software – it takes the descriptions of the lines, the font characters, etc within the document. It can do a good job, but it’s not flawless by any means.

SmartScore 64 Pro does work, but also requires some effort. It has a built-in editor where you can correct the notation before exporting as XML. If you don’t correct the errors, you can end up with a complete jumble, usually caused by too many notes in a bar, which affects every note from there onwards.

There have been lots of threads about “OMR” (optical music recognition) scanning software on this forum.
