Important key commands on iPad still don’t work

I’m using the latest Dorico for iPad with Apple Magic Keyboard.

“:” to end tuplet entry doesn’t work. I see someone else posted this same issue in 2024, and it was marked as resolved with “I’ll look into this” so I would just like to add another vote for actually resolving it. Additional issues I’ve found so far:

Esc key doesn’t seem to register at all, for:

  • ending note entry (less important, since Return does also work for this),
  • escaping out of popovers (this is important because the only other way I can find so far is to delete anything typed in the popover and then press Return), and
  • ending text entry (most annoying because the only way out of this is to touch the screen).

Also Cmd-Enter doesn’t work to exit text entry.

I’m just in the process of learning Dorico and these are the ones I’ve observed so far.

and welcome to the forum.
As far as I know, once you have an open project on the iPad, you can access the general Preferences (via the top right Application Menu - it looks like a hamburger).

If you switch to the area Key Commands, you will find all key commands Dorico uses in your setup. That’s also the place to set your general keyboard language. Once you have checked this you can go to the search field:

Search for Note Entry and have a look which key commands are associated. If a key command isn’t working, sometimes it helps to delete it and re-input it with your present keyboard. If there are conflicts with other key commands, you will be notified. I hope this helps for the beginning.

Yes as k_b says the iPad has the same shortcuts preferences changing ability as the desktop. The only issue with using keyboards are the shortcuts you can’t set, such as the escape key for popups and the few others you mention. Those have to be tapped out of which gets tiring. Daniel said some years ago they should hook up more of those but hasn’t happened yet.

I can’t really check - as I only use the onscreen keyboard on the iPad.
I noticed though, that it has no escape key either.
So this might have to do with Apples iPadOS guidelines?

My iPad Magin Keyboard doesn’t have the Escape key either; though I understand that Command period should work the same way.

However, that only works for coming out of Note Entry.

I concur that Command Enter doesn’t work, either.
