Importing a commerically available midi file

I am trying to figure out how to modify the sounds of a commercially-available midi song file (somename.MID) using Cubase 6.5 Artist. I have a Yamaha Mox8 that interfaces with my Cubase Artist 6.5. I want to be able to assign MOX voices to the midi song file. I have the interfacing software (mox to Cubase), but all my mox8 documentation seems to assume that I have created the midi file on the mox8 keyboard. What I am trying to do is create a Cubase project, import the midi song file into Cubase, assign mox voices to the existing tracks, save the updated midi file to a flash drive, and finally load the midi file complete with the mox sounds from the flash drive to the mox. If any of you have experience in doing that described above, please respond to this post. I’m not getting much response from the Motifator forum.
