I successfully imported a sketch dorico file into a custom template. (1) my sextet layout shows no parts (2) I can’t find a way to add instruments though they show as active in setup.
Hi @cccm, for the players assigned to the Sextet layout, Flow 1 was not activated. I selected on the left panel the players that are assigned to the Sextet layout, and activated the checkmark for Flow 1 for each of them in the lower panel (to see which instruments are assigned to the Sextet layout, I clicked on the Sextet layout on the right panel, as you can see in the screenshot):

The flow check mark solved the empty sextet layout, however the additional instruments I check to add in the layout do not show in the score. I used your corrected layout to try and add those instruments. They actually do not appear on any of the layouts.
Not sure what you mean with this.
The fact is that you created a custom score layout. This behaves differently from full score layouts or a part layouts.
In custom score layouts, you need to add both the player/s and the flow/s manually to it (with the checkmark, or right clicking on the custom score layout in th right panel of Setup mode).

Probably best to view the video @Christian_R suggests. I still really need to spend some time with layouts but I have noticed that it doesn’t quite work the way I expect. (Left and right panels confuse me a little but that’s my ignorance instead of intuition as to how it should work!) Usually I’m only doing lead sheets, so I’ll get around to it someday.

Setup mode can be confusing, because of the combinations of ways it can wire up players (left panel), flows (bottom panel), and layouts (right panel).
You currently have the Sextet layout selected (bright blue), and the screen shows that it contains the players on the left with their boxes ticked, and the music in Flow 1. But it’s possible that your tenor sax and violin players aren’t actually part of Flow 1, which is why they’re not displaying in the layout.
Click on Flow 1 in the bottom panel, so that it turns bright blue. Are the boxes in the left panel for tenor sax and violin ticked? If not, tick them. Does that make them show up in the layout?
