That all works fine, but I’m hoping to be able to achieve this:
I am much faster at writing grid-based percussion in Ableton using a Push. I was hoping I could create my parts in Ableton and then export the midi. Then I’d like to import the MIDI in to the Dorico VDL template which already has the percussion map installed. I was hoping I could drop that midi file in to my Tenors staff, but Dorico is only letting me import it in to a new “Treble Staff” instrument.
So since I’m having to import to a new instrument, I was hoping I could just copy and past the midi notes in to the Tenors staff, but then those notes are not populating the correct spots according to the percussion map.
So is there any possibility to make imported MIDI work correctly according to the percussion map?
I don’t see the option to make a choice of which channel to import to. In all the MIDI import options, I just don’t see a way to pick which track it imports to, either.
No, I think you have to set Ch10 in Ableton, then export, then import into Dorico. IIRC, the MIDI channel is baked into the MIDI.
Alternatively, you could also drag the MIDI into Play Mode, that’s what I always do, btw.
Yeah I tried dragging the midi to the piano roll of the percussion and that did map correctly, but strangely it only brought in every other note and wasn’t the correct rhythm while the same midi file imports correctly when using the import feature (but doesn’t respect the percussion map).
