Confused reading the documentation for Exporting and Importing a Percussion Kit.
Background:
I created a new Midi Map for using the drum pad or midi keyboard (Korg micro-key 37). Also edited the Percussion Kit to my liking and exported the kit. Everything is working perfectly.
Question:
Where do I import the kit to apply to existing scores I created?
Possibly:
Add another Drum Set (eg Drum set 2) , importing the Percussion Kit I exported.
Still confused because i had read the manual before i posted.
So I remapped the percussion kit and playing techniques for my midi keyboard in a score, and exported the percussion kit.
How do I import the percussion kit into an existing score if it already has a drumset Full percussion kit? I don’t want to add another percussion kit (ie, drumset full) and do the import.
The manual for this is assumes starting with no percussion kit? Unless I’m missing something.
This pic is the existing score that i need the new updated percussion kit via import
When you import a percussion kit into an existing project, you can’t automatically convert an existing kit to assume the new kit definition, I’m afraid, so you’ll have a bit of manual copying and pasting to do.
Create a new single player and click Import Kit in the instrument picker, then choose the .doricolib file containing your exported kit
On the Players page of Layout Options, set both of your percussion kit players to show using the single-line appearance
Copy and paste the material from the instruments in your existing kit to the corresponding instruments in the new kit: select the first note in each instrument and use Select to End of Flow to quickly select the remainder, then use Alt+click to copy that material to the corresponding instrument in the new kit.
Once you have done this, delete the original single player with the original kit.
I have used couple of hours to try find the solution how utilize percussion kits from project A to B. Below you can see SD3 Orchestral Persccion I instruments and everything works and sounds great. I have fine tuned percussion map and instruments.
First I have exported the kits Gongs, Toms, Cymbal + Piattis and Taikos from project A and made endpont setup of project A (according to score). In project B everything is fine for first four instrument (Snare drum, Bass drum, Tam-tam and thundersheet) but when reading fifth instrument (Gongs) in and using playpack template made from project A the individual sound in Gong kits are not correct.
I have made also mirror test in project A to use percussion maps and endpoint setups developed in this project by reading these in with playback template and everything works fine. This score above is open when I read playback template in.
So have somebody some idea what I have missed or done wrong way because I can’t utilize the kits in other projects?
When you export a percussion kit to a library file, Dorico modifies the internal IDs for the instruments in the kit so that when you import that kit into another project, the settings for any existing instruments in the destination project that already exist are not overwritten.
However, this interferes with the correct operation of the endpoint configuration, because it is looking for the original instrument IDs, and not the revised ones created when you exported the kit.
For the time being, your best bet would be to save the project in which you set up your kits and your endpoints as a project template, and start new projects from that template file, rather than importing those kits into another project and then applying your playback template.
In future, we intend to make it such that when you export an endpoint configuration, any instrument types that are referenced will be included in the accompanying library, so you won’t need to separately export the kits from the project: they will be included in the endpoint configuration.
