Importing pickup measure from Finale XML

Imported MusicXML file from Finale. Piece starts with 1 quarter-note pickup. The way Finale managed that was to have two invisible dummy rests in the first measure before the pickup. In Dorico this leads to an unwanted 2 quarters’ worth of empty space in the pickup bar. How do I rectify that?

Hi @wconable, this needs only a couple of clicks to be corrected.

Please upload your Dorico project here, to avoid guessing what exactly is happening through the conversion from XML.

But what you probably need is:

  • select the first visible note,
  • deactivate the Start voice property override in the Properties Panel (the dummy rests will reappear)
  • activate Insert Mode in Global Adjustement of current Bar scope (the fourth one)
  • select and delete the rests
  • Dorico creates the needed one-beat pickup bar for you (3/4,1)
