Hello,
First of all, thank you for the excellent addition of Folder/Group Channels. They significantly improve MixConsole readability and save a lot of space — especially on large projects. Great work.
After using them on a real production (6 ska tracks with full band: drums, bass, guitars, brass section, vocals, backing vocals, and additional percussion), I identified two workflow limitations that could be greatly improved.
1. Global Expand/Collapse for Folder/Group Channels in MixConsole
Current limitation:
There is no quick way to expand or collapse all Folder/Group Channels at once in the MixConsole.
Real-world issue:
On large sessions, I often need to manually open or close each folder one by one, which is time-consuming and interrupts workflow.
Feature request:
Add a global command or toggle to:
-
Expand all Folder/Group Channels
-
Collapse all Folder/Group Channels
(Optional: assignable key command or MIDI Remote action)
2. MIDI Remote: Ability to Filter Channels (Groups Only / Ignore Tracks)
Current limitation:
MIDI Remote follows the strict track order in the project and does not distinguish between:
-
Audio tracks
-
Group/Folder Channels
-
Buses
Real-world workflow:
-
I use a MIDI controller with 9 faders
-
Previously, I placed all buses at the end of the MixConsole
-
This allowed me to control and automate only buses easily
With Folder/Group Channels, the track order becomes nested and mixed:
-
Drums folder → kick group → kick tracks → snare group → snare tracks, etc.
-
Buses are no longer easily reachable in a contiguous block
Result:
-
Faders follow track order (useful for balancing)
-
But inefficient for automation, where I only want to control buses/groups
Feature request:
Add filtering or mapping options in MIDI Remote, such as:
-
Control only Group/Folder Channels
-
Ignore audio tracks
-
Custom channel selection (e.g., “Groups only”, “Buses only”)
Why this matters
These improvements would:
-
Greatly speed up workflow in large sessions
-
Make Folder/Group Channels fully compatible with hardware controllers
-
Restore efficient bus-based automation workflows
If anyone else is working with hardware controllers and large sessions, I’d be curious to hear your workflow.
Thanks again for your work on Cubase — it’s an amazing tool.
These enhancements would make an already great feature even more powerful.
Best regards,
