In Depth Video Tutorials VST Live Pro 2

Will there be any in Depth video tutorials to help people like me to understand and operate VST Live with all its wonderful features. I have owned VST Live for some months now and have not been able to use at all. I would love to upgrade to Live Pro 2 but I don’t see the point if I cant even operate VST Live.
Thanks in Advance

Hi! What is your question for now? Maybe can answer it quickly

Pretty much everything from setting up audio backing tracks, automation, DMX. And what hardware is required for all the above.

Hi @Andrew_Beckett until there are video tutorials. Any prior experience with VST Live 1?

For audio backing tracks, you can use whatever sound I/O you have
For DMX, I would rather suggest ArtNet node instead of USB2DMX device
To answer you regarding automation, what kind of track you are going to automate?

I currently use LiveTraker which has been great and fairly simple to use. But after seeing what VST Live offered I became really interested in learning and switching to a platform that could offer more flexibility in live performance, however I have struggled to make it work and I guess and appreciate there is a learning process as with anything new. I would like to use plugins on any tracks if needed as LiveTraker has its own EQ and Compressors for each track but does not offer the use of any third party plugins. I would like to automate my hardware vis midi like TC Helicon Voicelive 2, Line 6 POD HD PRO X rack Guitar effects for each of my setlist songs . I would like to automate volume levels of certain instrument tracks throughout the songs duration. The possibility of using and automating a third party DMX depending on what can be done and how well VST Live can perform with its DMX capabilities as well.

Hi! Sure, you can do all above

… you can installer a demo of VST Live 2. It runs for one month. If you have specific questions, please let us know. I am sure we can help you.

Hi

I have upgraded to VST Live Pro 2. I have a MacBook Pro m1 Sonoma 14.5

I have managed to have a play with backing track audio files, song parts, Volume automation, Lyrics and chords. So far everything seems to be working fine. I guess I will just stick with one song so I can get my head around it and have a go at the other features as well as understand and create my own workflow as I get more familiar with it.

One thing I did notice is the folder file structure a bit confusing.

I have one main folder - VSTLive and inside it there is layers, parts, presets, projects, songs, stacks and templates.

I click on the projects folder and there are other folders with the same named folders in it plus extra folders which are named audio, automation, chord, marker, midi, recordings.

But also I see .vlprj file for the song Im working on and also, .bal files from the same song but they are scattered and are in no folder.

I did a save archive of the song which created another folder which I named for the song but it contains no files in any of its folders that have the same named folders.

I would like to keep all my files and songs organised but it seems a bit messed up and unorganised.

Thanks

Andrew

It’s simple. Next to each .vlprj file (a VST Live project containing multiple Song) are its assets and media files, organized in folders of the media/asset name.

Media files may also be located elsewhere, if you don’t have the preference “Copy media files” activated. Each event (clip) in a Songs Tracks timeline keeps the filename of its media file, and also searches in the projects media folder (e.g. “audio”).

The “Save Archive“ function conveniently creates a complete copy of your project and all of its assets (unless it can’t find it).

One other thing to remember is that you should save a newly created project as soon as possible, so that it knows where to store and find its assets.

When you save a project, it will rename a project file of the same name to „.bak“ if it exists so to keep a backup. You can rename such a file to „.vlprj“ to restore it if necessary.

I am also in dire need of tutorials.
I promise you my questions will be far too many for forum threads. I might drive everyone crazy lol. Don’t get me wrong though…the people on here are suuuper patient and helpful.

ANYWAY…I’m not new to music software at all but man, VST Live is extremely unintuitive to me.
At this point I realize I shouldn’t have upgraded to version 2 just yet. To be honest, when I upgraded, I genuinely thought there’d be walkthrough videos sooner or later because just about everything out there has tutorials. Every little plugin has vids showing you the ropes. Yet VST Live which is way more than just a plugin and is made by the legendary Steinberg has none. It’s been ages since I last searched and there’s still nothing substantial at all. :frowning:

Thankfully I stumbled upon an alternative and messed with the trial version. So far it’s much easier for me to grasp BUT it doesn’t do video, lighting or automation (which I would eventually want to incorporate live). Bummed because I was thrilled to find VST Live right after switching to Cubase and it I’m pretty sure it can do exactly what I’m looking for and MORE. I just can’t wrap my head around it. I’m going to give the forums one last scour…Not gonna let go just yet.

Apologies for the long post just to say “I wish there were video tutorials”.
Judging by the only 2 likes on the original post…I’m quite alone lol.

Wish me luck.

There are - what are you missing?

Hi fkalmus. Thèreis literally no detailed manuals or videos to guide newbies to the product. I have founf myself fiďling and finally being able to set multiouts for Ezdrummer and routing those indivìidual components to seperate output- by trial and error. Right now i cannot set layers within parts to a song such that i can trigger say acc piano in part one and electric one in part 2 etc. Can autmation help here.? There are no detailed videos on this. Pls qssist

Hi! Where did you stuck?
Could create PARTS (note the time/position setting to each PART… if u feel lost, try to put playhead somewhere the click to PART right bubble to set the position of.

Are u okay till that point?
