Inconsistent "C" in time signature

Does anyone else think that the cut common signature looks funny?

As I was about to ask for suggestions on how it could look “better”, I realised that the C in the two signatures aren’t even the same. I’ve used this font for a while now but I guess I haven’t used cut common yet!

Is this normal? Is there a version with just a single slash?

In Finale Maestro Text (or Finale Maestro)? Seemingly no. It doesn’t even contain the C shown in bar 1. In both time signatures in your example, Dorico’s substituting some other font in order to put something on the page. Your best bet is probably to go to the Music Symbols Editor and substitute something better for both Common time (plain) and Cut time (plain).

Thanks for the reply, Leo.

What’s your (or anyone else’s!) opinion of this one? I’ve added in a 4/4 to give the C a bit more context, if that helps:

Is this for Renaissance music…?

Any reason you’re not using the standard symbols? Inevitably, this draws attention to itself as being different, so the question the performers will ask is: why? Does this indicate something different?

I actually purchased a template from PAS Music that had time signatures displayed this way. And I didn’t mind it… until cut common…

Is it a slashed C? :joy:
