(Dorico 6.0.22)
Start with a simple file and save it;
Select X and Reset Appearance;
Nothing apparent changed, but the file is marked as ‘changed’.
Save the file again (see image #1), and Reset Position;
Nothing apparent changed, and the file is marked as ‘unchanged’.
Return to image #1 (add some music) and Remove Forced Stem;
Nothing apparent changed, and the file is marked as ‘unchanged’.
Return to image #4 and Reset Beaming;
Nothing apparent changed, but the file is marked as ‘changed’.
Should not all cases where nothing is changed result in a file marked as ‘unchanged’?
It is not important for a user what happens ‘behind the scenes’ that (programmatically) makes a file ‘dirty’. They should ‘trust’ the Dorico icon status to indicate whether something has changed or not.
It is very annoying to be asked
when nothing has changed. It only raises the question ‘What have I now done to the file?!’.
