Incorrect VST3 note ID on note off when sustain pedal held

I haven’t seen this happening on macOS. The reason you see the line is getting removed is that this pref is for Windows only. The code for this pref is only compiled into the Windows version of Serum.

Can you tell me which versions of macOS and Cubase you are running? An exact description of the symptoms you are seeing would help too.

I’m assuming you’re referring to the sustain pedal issue btw, which was the original topic of this thread, not the subsequent piano roll issue that was reported above ( Incorrect VST3 note ID on note off when sustain pedal held - #31 by JuraP ).

Ah thanks mate. Yes. Mine are the hanging notes on 2.0.23. I will try rolling back as I am not sure it happened on previous version. Happens for me in Cubase only it appears.

Actually it occurs in the previous Serum 2 build also. It is a Serum/Cubase thing for sure. I am still on Cubase Pro v12 so I cannot comment for newer versions.

I’m going to add a way of ignoring VST3 note IDs in the next build of Serum 2 as a workaround, will post further details here when it gets released. Came across another note ID bug in Cubase yesterday, will report in a separate thread.

Nice one. Thanks

Serum 2.0.24 is out now and we have added a way to make it ignore VST3 note IDs, for cases where the host has an issue related to them. This option is available on both macOS and Windows.

To enable it you’ll need to manually edit the Serum2Prefs.json file (see Appendix C in the Serum 2 manual). Download and install the update, run Serum 2 once, quit Cubase, then locate and open prefs file. Make sure it has the line “Ignore VST3 Note IDs: true”, save it then launch Cubase and Serum 2 again.

Just out of curiosity: does any other host have this problem?

A lot of hosts don’t use VST3 note IDs. Reason 13 and below had an issue where it used noteID 0 instead of -1. They fixed it in Reason 14 but we added a hardcoded workaround for that.

Well, thanks for using some of the apparently lesser used features of VST3 in a popular product. It seems to make the hosts better and, if they work correctly, will be beneficial to your customers as well.
