Increase Choir Volume Level

Hi, I wonder how I could increase the volume of the Olympus Choir instead of lowering all the other instruments. It’s not normal that one violin sounds twice as loud as the choir. I tried to look for additional settings in HALion Sonic 7, but without success. Did I miss something?

You could add some compressor in the insert — no need to compress, but you can use it to raise the level and have your staging ok.

Thanks, Marc. I did that, but I still can’t get better results. Did I understand you right – put a compressor on the choir channel in the mixer? And then?

Click off the Auto Make up (AM that’s highlighted) and you can use the knob to increase gain.

Thank you, I did, but it doesn’t help that much, as the sound quickly becomes quite creaky. It’s a general question – the choir sounds very distant, with a lot of reverberation and lack of clarity, while the other instruments are much louder and quite dry. I’m just asking myself why.

No idea, sorry. You can try reducing the Send to the reverb FX, together with increasing the mak-up gain in the compressor. Perhaps you can get a bit closer to what you’re after.
