Hi, i make music books for kids and need the format to be quit large, i have managed to find every setting i need in dorigo except one.
i need to make the space between the lines on a stave larger.
there are two options that are close to doing it but sadly they didnt work well.
-
Layout Options>page setup>Space Size
for this the manual states ‘rastral size’ is for the whole stave and ‘space size’ is for the size of the gaps in the stave.
so it sounds perfect but when using it these to settings are link and they just increase the overall size of the stave rather than enlarge the gaps.
-
‘engrave options’>staves>staff lines> scale factor for distance between staff lines in tablature.
this works exactly how I need it to except for the fact its for tab only and not a normal stave, I also tried the other options here with no luck.
if anyone knows a work around for this it would be much appreciated,
edit
here is an image showing how method 1 is ineffective,
and how method 2 works so well at doing this to TAB showing that it achieved the same spacing as method 1 but without damaging any other elements/layout of the score. this is the goal I’m seeking but for the notation.

Welcome to the forum! Everything on the staff is measured relative to the staff space, so the space size does indeed control the overall size of the music.
Is it perhaps that the noteheads look too large on a very big staff? I often use the smaller “default” noteheads. You can find that in Engraving Options > Notes.
If you need the notes to be even smaller, you could define a new notehead set … But I want to understand your requirement in more detail before I recommend that.
just updated the original post with an image.
I thought the same thing at first, that i could balance the rastral size along with the note heads but for the amount of space you get from this it will make the rest of the score unusable. as you can see in method 1.
method 2 is showing how well this works for TAB, yet there seams to be no way of doing this with notation.

I see you’re using the note-name noteheads, so that question is addressed.
Is it just that you can’t fit even one bar on a line at that size?
- You can have any space size – it doesn’t have to be one of the rastral preset sizes
- You can omit the instrument name and bracket on the left to gain horizontal space
Is there something else about this requirement I’m not understanding?
With extreme effort, Dorico can produce the enlarged staves you want:
The page size is Letter, the space size is 20 points, the staff label and lyrics are 3 points staff-relative, and everything else is half of its normal size.
