Independent time signatures within the same measure number

Hi!

I am migrating some works from Finale files and I am curious how to best do this:

I want the orchestra to maintain a vamped rhythmic figure and the voice to be free over that cell. However, the ensemble changes cells when the voice lands on the next figure. I hope that makes sense. It’s worked really well in over 20 productions so I’d rather not try a different way to notate this, BUT I am totally open to suggestions.

You could use tuplets for the free sections (here a big 16:2q)

Edit: I didn’t notice that the repeat signs were not showing up in the voice staff, that’s also possible with local Time Signatures::

Ooooh! Great idea. Thanks so much! Both for the welcome and possible solution. That will allow me to have different relative rhythms within the tuple too. I’ll play with it and repost. :slight_smile:

Thanks for the suggestion! I thought about that, but I couldn’t figure out a way for everyone to easily maintain the same measure numbers with the cutaway. Is there something I’m missing?
