Independent voice playback and Noteperformer

Hi all!

I have been using Halion Sonic sounds in my project – looking for the best sounds for me, editing them and usig independent voice playback for some movements to have a different sound for example for double bass (a classical sound vs a jazzy pizzicato).
I would also like to do this but use Noteperformer for a section of a flow. So I created a new voice and enabled independent voice playback, assigned noteperformer to the instrument (cello in this case) but when I open the NP mixer, it’s the classic “here’s how to activate np sounds” tutorial.
How can I just add an instrument and then assign the right channel? I know one solution could be to set NP as a playback template so all sounds load NP, but then I would have to start all over again with all the other sounds.
Has anyone had experience with this topic? I’m still kinda discovering the Play section of Dorico.

All the best,
Joonas

Noteperformer is a bit special. You can’t add a patch to it, in the same way that you can for HALion instruments, or ARIA.

When NP is assigned as the current Playback template, then any existing or new Dorico instruments will create NP instruments in the VST.

If you want to mix and match sounds from NP and other libraries, then you’ll need to create a new Playback Template. You can define which instruments are used from a given library, and which “fall through” to the next library on the list.

Alternatively: you can save the state of the NP VST as a preset, in this bit at the top.

So, create a new blank document using NP as the active template, add new instruments, and then save the preset.
Go back to your old document, and you can load the preset.
