Independent Voice Playback and the Live Stage

Hello -

I have a question about independent voices and the Live Stage. I have a vocal that I am trying to transcribe (an old folk song, with harmony). In order to aid my harmony transcription, I have two voices (up stem and down stem). I’ve enabled independent voice playback, and I’ve assigned two different instruments for playback (Oboe and Flute). This is working well to help decipher the harmony vocals.

I can use the mixer to pan the two voices left and right so I can hear the different voices in my headphones, but when I use the Live Stage, there is only one “voice voice” appearing, and it re-sets the pan of BOTH voices to wherever the “voice” is on the stage.

I would also like to rename the Voices in the mixer, but I believe that’s a known feature that is not yet implemented.

I’m attaching a few images to show the problem.

Would it be better to have two vocal staves, one for each voice?

I don’t use stage templates all that much but this appears to be by design. Regardless how many “voices” are enabled with independent voice playback, Dorico still considers them conceptually the same “player” and hence both voices are handled the same from live stage (pan and sends are identical).

Unless someone with more knowledge knows better, if you need them positioned on the stage separately, use separate players.
