Initial offbeat measure

Hello everyone,

How do you insert an initial upbeat measure (anacrusis) of 1/8 in a 4/4 time?

Thanks
:musical_notes::musical_note:

You write 4/4,0.5 in the Shift-M measure popover.

Thank you :folded_hands:t3:

And in case you want a 1/16 anacrusi (as in the attached example), how do you do it?

If an eighth is half a beat, then a sixteenth is a quarter.

E nel caso di valori più piccoli (biscroma,etc.) che valore s’inserisce dopo la virgola?

The simplest way, without any calculation, is to add and remove bar-lines at will! Try it!

The friendliest way is, arguably, to write whatever pick-up you want in the first full bar, then:

  1. Activate Insert mode
  2. Set the scope to “Global Adjustment of Current Bar”
  3. Select the rests at the start of bar 1 (leave your pick-up notes unselected)
  4. Press Delete (standard Delete/Backspace key)

The equivalent time to the selected rests is removed. And because it’s in bar 1, Dorico knows to convert what’s left into a pick-up.
