Just an idea…
Could the line with the input carat show the A to G range of the next note? Maybe small ticks or extra thickness?

Additionally… a option for notes to always be input in a particular range (say in treble clef, C below stave to B middle-line) with up/down/octave modifier key. This way you’re modifying from an absolute position rather than a relative one.
My immediate thought of how to indicate this is a very light shadow over the range.
