In cb 15 I have set up an input channel for vocal. When I open the mixer if I move the fader from zero it immediately goes to red although I have not recorded anything? Any ideas?
You pulled the fader all the way down to “zero,” or you’re saying it’s when you move the fader from the default position, 0dB?
What devices are you using (mic and audio interface)? Have you successfully recorded anything using those devices in the past? It’s not clear if you’re having a sudden issue, or you just trying to figure out how to get things configured correctly.
Thanks James. I’m using the trial version of cubase 15. My interface is M Audio Solo. I haven’t recorded anything yet so I assume it’s not configuring correctly. The fader if I pull all the way down is OK but as soon as I try to put the fader towards the default setting of 0dB it goes straight to red as though its clipping. Hope this explains OK.
Sometimes it’s as simple as having your level set too high on the audio interface. If you turn down the input where your mic is connected (all the way), does it still have the issue? Are you using phantom power?
Are you sure of the connections settings (Hi-Z, Phantom power…) and have you tried to record some vocals with another DAW ? If so, is it an issue specific to Cubase ?
Additionaly, it would help to see a screenshot of both the Input channel involved and its associated audio track (with the Routing and Pre sections fully visible) in the MixConsole.
EDIT : the issue also looks as if there was some kind of feedback loop. Any forgotten connected cable or active speaker somewhere that could go in the way, or an added background application that could eventually explains the issue ?
Hi I attach screenshots as suggested by Cubic. Hope these help. I am using a shure SM57 so no phantom power. Hardly any input level on the M Audio and, as you can see very little on the input tracks which, incidentally, have both gone to red together with the output channel. Add insult to injury I am not getting any sound now full stop! tearing my hair out lol.
It looks more and more like a feedback loop to me, and I suspect that your M-Audio speakers are involved. Have you tried to use the exact same project without them, using headphones instead or, at least, trying to adjust their output level ? It happened countless times with my monitor speakers, on my end, condenser mics being quite sensible to it.
Thanks Cubic I’ll give it try
If that doesn’t help, can you post screenshots of your Inputs and Outputs tabs in the Audio Connections? I guess you have no outputs enabled since you’re using Control Room for monitoring, eh?
Hi guys. Thanks for your help. By trying out your suggestions I stumbled across the problem. I had set the Asio driver to steinberg and everything else to M Audio. By changing the Asio to M Audio it seems to have resolved itself!! Once again thanks for all your help.
