Input from MIDI no longer functioning (SOLVED)

Today I booted up Dorico and started to get to work on a score - I was unable to input notes with the MIDI keyboard.

I’ve read all of the posts I could find, done all of the suggested things.

No joy.

Win 11, Dorico 6 (latest update).

I’ve changed keyboards, changed MIDI cables, tried Dorico 5 instead, clicked the option to filter out events, disabled everything but the keyboard being used…. Rebooted, removed the keyboard from power for 30 sec , then powered on, started Dorico.

I still get the green light in the lower RH corner. Sometimes I can get a sound out of Noteperformer, but never any ability to use the keyboard to input notes.

Just on a lark I fired up MuseScore, and was able to get notes to input, so….

I’ve wasted nearly 3 hours, and I’m grumpy as hell. LOL

You say you’ve read “the other posts” so I won’t waste my time responding.

Well, if I’ve tried all of the suggestions and it still doesn’t work…. What am I to do?

The green light means there is definitely MIDI signal going in. Not sure why there’s no note input.

Perhaps a Diagnostics Report might be useful if Ulf gets to see this thread.

Surely one of those suggestions was to upload your diagnostics?

Here is the diagnostic file.

I’m puzzled, because now I’ve tested MuseScore, Finale and Sibelius as well, and the keyboard MIDI is working fine. So, I’m at a loss.

Dorico Diagnostics.zip (698.3 KB)

Now, I just plugged the keyboard into my old iMac, and MIDI input w/Dorico works fine, so it’s obviously windows-specific. (or at least specific to this machine)

I’m spoiled, I guess - 5 years f Dorico with virtually zero problems.

I still need it to work, but at least I can function for now tonight.

Hi @giwro , thanks for the data.
So you are talking about your Keystation that does not work, right?
It did get recognized on the two previous runs with Dorico, but for some reason disconnected as input device but in the current session (at the time you took the diagnostics) it was internally connected, so I really wonder, it should have worked.
One other thing caught my eye, namely in the Advance Options you have WinRT MIDI enabled, what if you disable that, does your keyboard then work?

Ulf,

That might be the culprit - darn windows update hit this week, so it very well could be - I did use the Microsoft tool to check for it earlier in the process, and verified it was there.

I’m away from the office this morning for a few hours, but I will give that a try and report back. The good news is, I can access the score I was working on via the network drive, so I eventually pivoted to using the iMac temporarily. I miss the shortcuts from StreamDeck, but it’s still pretty fast.

Thanks for the speedy support - like I said, I’ll report back later today when I have a chance to try out your suggestion.

Best,

Jonathan

WinRT was the culprit.

Thanks for the speedy help!
