Input of voice dependend gradual dynamic failes

I’m trying to input some voice dependend dynamics. It works with immediate dynamics but not with gradual dynamics.
Here is what I did:

  1. Select the note to place the dynamic
  2. Shift N to start Note input, there is only one voice in this line
  3. Shift D for Dynamics input
  4. Enter a < and close the popover with Alt+Enter
    The popover is closed but nothing is displayed on the staff.
    What am I missing?

After the alt+enter, press space one or more times to prolong the hairpin.
