Inputing whole rest in Voice 2

Creating a Snare/Bass Staff in Concert Band score. Snare part (voice 1) has notes in it. I want a whole rest to appear in Voice 2 (Bass Drum) in the same measure. Mid-measure. Can this be done?

There is a global setting in Notation Options > Rests > Bar rests in additional voices.

Alternatively insert an explicit rest with the Rests tool.

However if you use a Percussion Kit instrument there is Notation Options > Percussion > Rests in additional voices in five-line staff presentation.

Vidian,
Thanks so much. I am a 33 year Finale user and have been using Dorico for only a week. Your last option I think will work as I am using a Perc. kit. Where do I find NOTATION OPTIONS?

Vidian,
Never mind. I found it under the Library Menu. I think this will do it. Thanks so much.

So am I, 31 years Finale

⇧⌘N, I highly recommend to learn the shortcuts as soon as possible

I would even say, you don’t need to learn them (as they are so obvious), you just have to use them

I agree, replace learn with memorize

I have memorized quite a few shortcuts so far in the last week, but am still somehow stuck in Finale mode and it’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks.

By the way, one more thing I am having trouble finding in the manual is how to add roll slashes to percussion notes. It’s likely very simple but I can’t find it. Do you know how to add roll slashes?

It took some time to understand what a roll slash is.

You mean a tremolo. Yes, this is pretty odd for Finale users, it’s in the Repeat Structures section.

Fortunately it’s very easy with popovers:

Press ⇧R and then enter one, two or three slashes

Perfect! Thank you again. You are a fast learner.

There is a lot of logic to the choice of mnemonics for the popovers, but unfortunately not all of it is obvious, which somewhat defeats the purpose (First it only works in English!)

In this case tremolos are repeats, because they repeat notes, hence you use shift-R!

Also now there is the Jump Bar: Hit J, start typing the name of the command, and Dorico finds it for you.
