I tried to input a quaver crotchet two semiquaver and the program keeps splitting the crotchet and then tying together the quavers. How do I get it to stop doing this?
Can you post a screenshot? What is the meter?
I managed to split the beams and it still wants to tie the quavers.
Have you set the proper settings for syncopation in Notation Options?

In case Notation Options does not have the setting you want, here is how to do it using Force Duration.
NOTE: If it is needed throughout the project, rather than in just a small number of bars, the preferred method is to use Notation Options.
Select the second of the two quavers in bar 2 (ie the first of the two tied quavers)
Press 5 (this will convert the two tied quavers to one quaver)
Press the letter O (this will turn on Force Duration)
Press 6 (this will turn the quaver into a crotchet)

The setting in Notation Options > Note Grouping that would seem to control this is undone by the two semiquavers at the end of the bar. If it were a quaver, you wouldn’t have to force the crotchet.
