Inputting Slash Chord Symbols with a MIDI Keyboard

Hi-
I am inputting slash chord symbols with a MIDI keyboard. I saw another post that described how to do this (play the chord, then re-strike the root before releasing the chord). While this works, it’s also adding the bass note as part of the chord. For instance, rather than just G/C, it inputs Gadd11/C. Any way to get just the G/C?
